The focus of the seminar binder is on exam-type questions, with the primary emphasis being on math questions. A large set of practice problems is included, with both original problems and exam problems from past FSA exams that apply to the current syllabus. Also included is a summary list of past exam questions, indicating the source of the SOA’s illustrative solution and a review of the case study, if applicable, and all syllabus readings.
Non-math questions from past FSA exams are listed in the seminar outline provided, to illustrate topics that have been tested in the past and how those questions were worded. The instructor includes suggestions on successfully preparing for the exam and answering the different types of exam questions. The instructor offers his support for the entire exam season, available by email for any questions that may arise.
The study manual begins with a short discussion of exam studying advice, which includes a suggested study schedule. This is followed by the two main sections of the manual: a detailed outline and a condensed outline.
The detailed outline is a summary of all required readings for the exam, written in outline format. Having this outline already prepared saves time that can be better spent committing the material to memory. The outline is written in sufficient detail to minimize the need to reference the syllabus source material.
Following the detailed outline is a condensed outline of lists. These lists are focused on the main topics of the syllabus and are a very effective studying tool for the final weeks before the exam.
The note cards contain the lists from the study manual’s condensed outline. These lists are focused on the main topics of the syllabus and are a very effective studying tool for the final weeks before the exam.
Practice problem set:
The practice problem set contains 50 exam-style questions which will help candidates get a feel for the types of questions that will be asked on the exam. A suggested solution is included for each question.
The primary focus is on mathematical topics. But there are also some questions and parts of questions on non-mathematical topics. The problem set includes both original questions and past SOA exam questions that are relevant based on the current syllabus.
These practice problems are some of the problems that will be reviewed at our exam preparation seminar. A larger set of practice problems will be provided there.
